During the carneval season are held more than 800 fancy-dress balls and classical gala balls. The Climax of the open air activities is on February 10 (Faschings-Sonntag), where the central sqare Marienplatz is turned into a huge party zone with music, fancy dress and dancing. One of the highlights is the dance of the market women at the Viktualienmarkt on Shrove Tuesday at 11 am.
